IT support for Apple based companies: running the whole business on MacBooks, iPhones and iPads without improvising

By Črt Kranjc · Published

Your company runs entirely on Apple, from MacBooks to iPhones and iPads, and you want IT support that genuinely knows it rather than a Windows provider who tolerates the Mac. Here is how that works in practice.

Your company runs entirely on Apple. You all work on MacBooks, your work email runs on iPhones, presentations and back office work on iPads, the meeting room has an Apple TV. This is a deliberate choice Apple devices are fast, reliable, secure and work together as a single whole.

The problem arises when you try to find IT support. Most providers in Slovenia are primarily Windows focused. They can "set up mail" for a Mac user, but they cannot set up Apple Business Manager, an MDM solution, FileVault policies and a smart structure of iCloud and Microsoft 365 accounts that would give you the same level of control that a Windows business has with Active Directory.

This is where I come in. I set up your Apple ecosystem the way Apple itself would, if it had the time and resources for a business of your size.

Who this support is for

The typical company that calls me:

  • a creative agency or studio (design, video, photo, brand)
  • an architecture firm or interior design studio
  • a development company (iOS, web, product) with 5 to 30 people
  • a marketing or PR agency
  • a consulting company with a premium positioning
  • a start up or scale up where the team has deliberately chosen Apple

What they all have in common: you do not have an IT department, you do not want to hire one, but you want an organised, secure and professional IT environment where someone actually knows Apple devices.

What I set up in an Apple company

1. Apple Business Manager

There is no way around this. The company registers with Apple free of charge as a legal entity. This lets you buy new devices directly from an authorised reseller and have them automatically enrol in your MDM the first time they are switched on. The user gets a MacBook in hand, turns it on, and everything is set up.

2. MDM (Mobile Device Management)

Central management of all Apple devices. Depending on size and existing stack: Jamf Now, Kandji, Mosyle or Microsoft Intune. With MDM I set up:

  • security policies (passwords, FileVault, updates)
  • automatic app installation at sign in
  • remote lock or wipe of a device in case of loss or theft
  • restrictions on what employees can change themselves
  • distribution of business certificates, Wi Fi settings, VPN profiles

3. Accounts and identity

A clearly separated business and personal Apple ID for each employee. A Managed Apple ID through Apple Business Manager for all business needs (iCloud Drive, sync, App Store purchases on the company's behalf).

4. Mail, documents and collaboration

Depending on your preferences: Microsoft 365 (Outlook, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams), or Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Meet), or a combination with iCloud+ and native Apple tools. All set up so it works on every device without folder chaos and duplicate documents.

5. Security

FileVault on all devices, MFA on all accounts, Touch ID and Face ID for quick sign in, a business password manager (1Password, Bitwarden), protection against phishing, iCloud backups and document backups.

6. Onboarding and offboarding

A new person gets a MacBook and iPhone already enrolled in your system. All apps install themselves, access to mail and documents is set up, ready to work on day one. When someone leaves, devices are wiped remotely and prepared for the next person.

Typical problems in Apple companies that I solve

  • "Everyone sets up their MacBook their own way." Without MDM and standards, every computer looks different. I set up a unified policy.
  • "We do not know who has which device." I set up a record with serial numbers, users and status.
  • "When an employee leaves we do not have access to their documents." All business documents go into shared folders (OneDrive, Google Drive, SharePoint), not personal iCloud.
  • "Apple IDs are a mix of personal and work." We separate them with Managed Apple IDs through Apple Business Manager.
  • "We do not have backups." I set up Time Machine for working folders and cloud backups for business documents.
  • "We cannot remotely reach a lost device." With MDM and Find My, this is solved within a few minutes.
  • "Printing and scanning does not work reliably." I set up AirPrint compatible printers or a stable bridge to your existing ones.

What your company gets

  • one number for all IT problems that actually knows Apple
  • central management of all MacBooks, iPhones and iPads
  • standardised onboarding and offboarding
  • clear security policies that are enforced automatically
  • backups and a plan for the case of a lost device
  • real knowledge of how Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace work best on Apple devices
  • help buying and configuring new devices through Apple Business Manager

Why work with this sooner rather than later

Many Apple companies only call me once something serious has already happened. Someone loses a MacBook and there is no MDM to lock it. An employee leaves and takes an iCloud full of documents with them. A new person waits a week for someone to set up their computer.

All of this cannot happen with a properly organised Apple environment. The setup is a one off job, and maintenance is minimal because the Apple ecosystem is inherently stable. Once it is done right, the company has an IT environment it does not notice and that is exactly the point.

Price and scope of cooperation

I usually start cooperation with a one off setup project (Apple Business Manager, MDM, security, documentation) and then move to monthly IT support that covers everyday problems, new devices, onboarding and policy maintenance.

Specific prices depend on the number of devices and employees. Let us talk during a free 30 minute consultation, where I look at your current situation and prepare a realistic offer.

Conclusion

An Apple ecosystem in a company is not a hobby. It is a deliberate choice that deserves IT support treated with the same seriousness. If you run a company on MacBooks, iPhones and iPads and are looking for someone who can actually set it up and maintain it properly, we are in the right space here.

I do not adapt an Apple environment to Windows logic. I set it up the way it is meant to work.

Frequently asked questions

Do you provide IT support for companies with exclusively Apple devices?

Yes. I cover companies where the whole team works on MacBooks, iPhones and iPads. Setting up Apple Business Manager, MDM, Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace on Mac, security, backups and everyday support all from one hand.

Why would an Apple company even need outsourced IT support?

Apple devices are indeed less problematic than Windows computers, but that does not mean they are automatically secure and correctly set up. Without MDM, FileVault, MFA and proper onboarding, even an Apple company is exposed to device theft, phishing and data loss.

What is Apple Business Manager and why do I need it?

Apple Business Manager is a free Apple service through which a company registers with Apple as a legal entity. It enables automatic enrolment of new devices in MDM the first time they are switched on, central app purchasing and user management. Without it you have to set up every new device manually.

Which MDM solution do you recommend for an Apple company?

For companies with 1 to 50 employees, most commonly Jamf Now or Kandji for pure Apple environments, or Microsoft Intune if the company already uses Microsoft 365. We make the decision together based on existing infrastructure and goals.

Do you also cover iPhone and iPad in addition to MacBooks?

Yes. In an Apple company the entire ecosystem is one whole. I cover everything: MacBooks for work, iPhones for work email and communication, iPads for the field, presentations or back office, Apple TV for meeting rooms.
